They served as CEO and CFO respectively with an aim to build a car manufacturing company that is also a technology company. Ian Wright was the company’s third employee. 

In 2004, the company raised $7.5 million in series A funding, including $6.5 million from Elon Musk. Elon Musk became the chairman of the board of directors and also the largest shareholder of Tesla. Tesla is one of the world’s most valuable companies and has the most worldwide sales of battery electric vehicles and plug-in electric vehicles. 

Tesla is known to design sustainable systems, energy generation, and storage products. It produces solar energy for residential and commercial needs and installs batteries to store clean energy. It makes zero-emission vehicles that can charge with clean energy. 

As of 2022, the company offers four car models: Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y. It also develops, builds, sells, and installs solar energy generation systems and battery energy storage products. The energy products are available for residential, commercial, and industrial customers. 

Moreover, the company provides services like charging, insurance, vehicle servicing, software upgrades, and improved connectivity.
