The P&G Story

P&G came into existence when two brothers-in-law, James Gamble and Williams Procter, established a firm in Cincinnati. The company started operating that same year and experienced gradual growth over time. Twenty-one years later, the company was already a force to be reckoned with in the market. As of then, P&G concentrated on the manufacturing and marketing of soaps and candles. The company had a modest workforce of 80 employees. The American Civil War was a very fortunate event for the company because it was awarded a contract to outfit the Union Army with soaps and candles.

Shortly after, the firm established several factories across strategic locations to meet the rising demand. In 1961, P&G launched Pampers, its diapers, into the market. This product became a huge hit commercially. In 2005, the company introduced Gillette, its shaving stick, into the market. Gradually, it gained global renown. As of today, P&G houses more than 160 brands.
